Refugee:
A person who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of their nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail him/herself of the protection of that country.
The concept of a refugee was expanded by the Convention's 1967 Protocol and by regional conventions in Africa and Latin America to include persons who had fled war or other violence in their home country.
Illegal Immigration:
Immigration across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country.
There is a big difference. yet in malaysia, the difference doesnt exist.
[im not condemning my country, because no matter what, God puts u in a country to help build it.
besides, malaysia isnt all that bad.]
yet, refugee status is not recognized here.
this means that those who escape from their country because of wars or persecution due to many factors are considered illegal!
they are then taken to detention camps where - let's juz face the facts - they are treated like shit.
little food, dirty water, NO SANITARY PRODUCTS.
small living spaces, no medical treatment.
no clothes!
there isnt any proof of this, but for all we know, they might be "deported" [sold] as "workers" [slaves! - which includes prostitution, ppl], and all this because they fled from civil unrest!
saying 'from the frying pan into the fire' will be insulting the situation.
read this link. shows pictures and real-life stories of things happening in places merely 5/6 hours away from us!
we gotta do smtg. im 18 and my life is entirely too comfortable.
